Jets' Xavier Newman Out with Neck Injury After Being Stretchered Off vs. Steelers
October 21, 2024
New York Jets offensive lineman Xavier Newman was stretchered off the field due to a neck injury in the third quarter of Sunday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Jets announced Newman has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Melyssa Stark of NBC Sports reported that Newman has movement in his limbs and is being transported to a hospital.
Newman was injured after colliding with Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen during an interception return by rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr.
Newman was stabilized before being placed on a backboard and loaded onto the cart to be transported off the field.
The Jets inserted Newman into the lineup after starting right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker exited before halftime with an ankle injury. It was his 18th career appearance in the NFL.
Newman entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans in 2022. He spent that year on the practice squad before being signed to New York's practice squad in 2023.
After Newman exited, the Jets were down to their third-string right guard Jake Hanson.
