U.S. star Hannah Roberts, who won silver in Tokyo, looked to be in line for her first Olympic gold medal. She put up the highest individual score (91.80) and average score (91.45). Her problems started during the warmup for the final when she collided with Iveta Miculycova on a jump and appeared to be grabbing her right arm.
Roberts' first run was going smoothly before she attempted a front flip and was unable to land it. Her second run ended prematurely when she put her foot down on a landing, resulting in a score of 5.42.
In the men's competition, Torres Gil made history as the first Argentinian to win an individual Olympic medal in any cycling event. It was also Argentina's first medal at the Paris Games.

Torres Gil didn't stand out in qualifying with a seventh-place finish. It seemed like everyone was going to be looking up at Great Britain's Kieran Reilly, who led all riders with a 91.21 average in qualifying.
Reilly came into the Olympics after winning gold in the freestyle park at the 2023 European Games and World Championships. His two-score average in the final on Wednesday was slightly ahead of Torres Gil (93.81 to 93.47), but since they use the best score of the two runs at this stage of the competition, the Argentinian star was able to hang on for the win.
France's Anthony Jeanjean rebounded from a brutal first run in the final. He crashed out of the gate after losing his shoe, sitting in last place with a score of 3.22. The 26-year-old turned in a magnificent second run that earned a score of 93.76 and a bronze medal.
