NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Giants 'Actively' Trying to Trade Up for QB Amid Maye Links
April 25, 2024
The New York Giants appear to be in a full-court press to secure a higher draft pick.
Connor J. Hughes of SNY reported that New York is "actively trying to move up for a quarterback," but he added that a trade is not guaranteed.

I'm just not sure they can pull it off. <br><br>If Odunze is gone I think the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NYJ?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#NYJ</a> will trade back. <a href="https://t.co/litrLe7AMG">https://t.co/litrLe7AMG</a>
The Giants have the No. 6 pick in the draft, so some potential trade partners could be the New England Patriots at No. 3, the Arizona Cardinals at No. 4 and the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 5.
The draft seems likely to open with a run on quarterbacks. The Chicago Bears, the Washington Commanders and the Patriots all need quarterbacks and hold the top three picks. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings are a threat to trade up with the Nos. 11 and 23 picks in the first round.
Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy could all be off the board by the time the Giants select at No. 6. If they don't trade up, that might force them to look elsewhere at quarterback or select another position of need.
A trade-up could guarantee the Giants a shot at one of those four signal-callers, but it would likely cost a haul in addition to the No. 6 pick.
The Giants have Daniel Jones as their incumbent starting quarterback, but they could cut him next offseason and be left with a dead cap hit of only $22.1 million, per Spotrac.
