Expert Opinions
Adam Cailler of the Daily Star gave the game its most glowing review, writing, "Perfection is hard to achieve, especially in the world of video games – but WWE 2K24 comes as close to that as any previous game has so far."
While the MyFACTION mode was the one gripe he had with the game, the writer touted improved gameplay mechanics, the expansive roster, and the the introduction of new modes as the strengths of this year's presentation.
IGN's Jarrett Green was not a fan of this year's 2K Showcase of the Immortals mode, stating: "Some nagging bugaboos persist, like this year's Showcase mode that suffers from the inability to recreate genuine moments in wrestling history in video game form, while also trying to rewrite that history."
Despite that, he still gave the game a positive review:
"WWE 2K24 is clear proof that 2K and Visual Concepts have certainly hit their stride when it comes to making today's package better on the whole than yesterday's. While not drastically different, there are enough new little features added to every inch of this iteration that make it well worth climbing back into the ring."
Ryan Woodrow of GLHF by Sports Illustrated penned a glowing review of the game:
"Showcase mode has a lot more variety and is more exciting as it takes us through the 40-year history of WrestleMania; MyRise has better writing than ever before, and more vocal performances from wrestlers like Roman Reigns make for a more thrilling tale; and MyGM has a whole bunch of new features including new GMs, match-types, and roster customization."
He continued:
"As far as wrestling games go, this series is still the best there is at capturing the spectacle of these larger-than-life personas and turning the crazy, dangerous, and sometimes downright silly action we see on TV into a playable format. It ticks all the boxes you'd want for an annual sports series and comes with those loving touches that wrestling fans will appreciate."
By and large, the latest release from WWE and 2K Games has received positive reviews, with most celebrating the slight upgrades to popular modes and the expansive roster as keys to its overall quality.
There are bugs, and one's opinion of both the Showcase and Universe modes tends to depend on gaming preference and what the player looks like, but it is the consistency of the game that elevates it.
WWE 2K24 is available now in three different versions (Standard, Deluxe, and 40 Years of WrestleMania) and features 200 different Superstars, with more to be released via DLC as part of the game's Season Pass beginning in May.
